The Worth of Compassionate Teachers

Great teachers emanate out of knowledge, passion and compassion– APJ Abdul Kalam.

Being a teacher means being a vital part of a person’s life, especially in the early learning field where you play a key part in the child’s development and growth. Such a role requires one to be knowledgeable, aware, passionate, and most importantly compassionate.

What is compassion? Compassion is the ability to feel deeply and care about others, helping them find their way and relating to them, sounds like one of your favorite teachers?

As a teacher, not only do you need that trait but you also need to instill it in the children you teach, you lead via example, you mold traits in them by being a role model.

Engage them in compassionate activities, for instance, do monthly visits to a charity or helping out the less fortunate, teach them compassionate conversations with each other for example, if a student is feeling gloomy, instead of comforting them yourself, ask one of their classmates to cheer them up, this way you are also teaching them how to problem solve, you’re leading them to be more aware of others.

Most of the time we tend to forget the importance of the job and start to focus on more materialistic aspects, it is important to take care of yourself however it is twice as important to constantly remember that being a teacher is a lifestyle.

As a teacher, your personal life should be left at the classroom door and go into your day being the person you want your students to follow!
